The Garden RR - (part - 1)

The Possum Pass & Frog Mouth Gulch RR was founded, like many, on the living room floor in the mid 1990s. In late 1998, the GR moved outside at our new home. The RR now occupies a 50x30ft area, with about 200ft of track in a lazy dog bone loop. This is a railway in a garden, and as such there are no buildings or figures, nor models beyond the right of way, bridges and trains. The rest is wilderness. The yard may be small but there is a slope across the yard that causes ground to drop away by 5ft. This created great difficulties in the construction of a GR, but also generated great interest. With trains running along the ground at one side of the yard, and at eye level at the other, the sloping ground allowed for much diversity. The RR took 3 1/2 years to build, and the photo of the golder spike day shows the my first largescale loco, a Delton C-16 smashing through a paper banner to mark the first complete loop of the train. There are many large bridges used to leap between the garden beds, allowing the RR to ride level as the ground level drops away. Each bridge is different, and based on real bridges such as the George Town Loop Bridge of the C&S, the steel bridges of the D&RGW and the trestles of the RGS. I hope you enjoy this showcase.
